Hot Tub and Spa Modes
Most hot tubs have three different operating modes and depending on which mode your tub is set on can have a drastic change in the way the spa or tub heats. Here are the three different tub modes and their meaning.
Sleep Mode
This mode is displayed as SL or SLP on the topside control. The sleep mode heats the hot tub water to within 20 degrees of the set temperature during the filter cycle. For instance, if the spa is set for 100 degrees on sleep mode, it will heat to 80 degrees and stop.
In sleep mode, the tub only heats during the filter cycle if the filter cycle ends and the water is only 78 degrees it will stay at that temperature until the filter cycle comes on again.
How to Know Your Hot Tub is In Economy Mode?
Economy mode is the power-saving alternative for regular heating and you will know that you are in economy mode by the code displayed (EC or ECN).
The tub will only heat during the filter period. The temperature will remain close to desired, but it will drop between filter periods.
If the bather can get in a routine, the filter period should overlap the usage time by a half-hour. This will have the spa temperature closest to the desired temperature.
The economy mode is best used in mild to warm climates.
How to Get the Hot Tub Off Economy Mode
The economy mode can often be changed by pressing the “warm/temp” key then the “light” key on the topside control or pressing the “warm” or “cool” keys followed by the “mode” key. This will vary depending on the make and model of the hot tub.
